Our Programs in Kenya
Many grandparents must raise their grandchildren due to HIV/AIDS
Help the Aged is working with Care Partners International in support of a community clinic in Matangwe, Kenya.
Matangwe is a remote village in western Kenya with a population of 2,500 plus 6,500 people living in surrounding areas.
Subsistence farming. The nearest hospital is nearly 80 km away.
Current health challenges in Matangwe:
- High prevalence of HIV infection
- increase in HIV orphaned children cared for by elderly grandparents
- High infection rates by malaria and water-borne diseases
Clinic's initiatives:
- Establish HIV/AIDS education, counselling, testing and health promotion programs including but not limited to:
- Care for HIV orphans and their elderly care givers
- Establish home based care program for end stage palliative patients
- Operate and maintain the Matangwe Health Clinic
- Improve sanitation and the quality of drinking water to prevent diseases
- provide medical supplies and basic necessities to elderly poor
- provide support comfort and dignity to AIDS victims
