Elder Abuse Response and Referral Services: Helping Seniors in Need

Victoria WilliamsVictoria Williams has a passion for helping people, and with a Masters in Counselling, she is more than equipped for the job. Victoria did her University practical in the counselling department of The Nepean, Rideau, Osgoode Community Resource Centre (NROCRC ) and fell in love with the organization. Victoria then worked until June 2008 on Reaching Out to Isolated Seniors, a program sponsored by Help the Aged. She came back to the NROCRC and was hired by Elder Abuse Response and Referral Service (EARRS) in August to her current position as program coordinator.

Woodworking to Support Grans in India

Donald and Ester MacKayDonald and Ester MacKay have recently adopted their third Gran through our Adopt-A-Gran program.
 
Pictures, sculptures and wood carvings decorate Donald and Ester's house, reminders of Donald's former life in India and of memories from their past trips to that country.

Donald and Ester welcomed me into their home and told me many stories of their past trips to India and Donald shared memories of what his childhood was like being brought up there. His parents were missionaries working in India and he recalled growing up in Jodhpur, India and attending school there.

Intern, Sara Porisky, Reaching out to Seniors

Sara, Sister Maria and Grans in DominicaThe eldest of two girls in her family Sara Porisky was born and raised in Calgary, but lived in Kingston the past five years where she attended and graduated from QueensUniversity. At 23 years-old she traveled to the Dominica just six months after graduating from Queens with  a  BSc. in Life Sciences and a BAH in Psychology. She works overseas with the Dominican organization Reaching Elderly and Abandoned Citizen's Housebound (R.E.A.C.H) as an intern Jeffrey Joseph Wallacewith Help the Aged's International Youth Internship Program.
