Our Programs - Canada

The Canadian flag with the Helpt the Aged logo

In Canada, we support numerous local charitable organizations working with the elderly poor including the following:

National Career Focus Internship Program

Help the Aged (Canada) is not currently recruiting post-secondary graduates to participate in the National Career Focus Internship Program at this time.

Capital City Mission

Ottawa, ON - The Capital City Mission receives no government funding, and relies solely on donations from organizations like Help the Aged. About half of those who visit the mission are aged 45 and older. Our donations have helped to provide food, clothing, and personal care products for those at Capital City Mission who so desperately need it.

The Mission

Ottawa, ON - serving the needs of the homeless, the hungry and the lonely from all walks of life. Our donations have been used towards the building of a new clinic, a Christmas Hamper Program for the elderly, two soup lines daily, spiritual counselling, addictions counselling, life skills management and provision of some furniture for the seniors' wing of the Mission. Although the Mission is not a residency, their seniors' wing has approximately 30 seniors living there on a permanent basis.

Reaching Out to Isolated Seniors

Ottawa, ON -  HTAC is the lead agency in a network of over 100 community groups, agencies, and individuals who’ve come together to identify and reach out to socially isolated seniors.  Reaching Out to Isolated Seniors hopes to break the patterns of social isolation for the elderly by raising awareness of the risk signs, advising where to call for help and to engage the community around this important issue.

Elderly in Need program

Ottawa, ON - The Elderly in Need program provides one-time grants (up to $1000) to assist seniors in crisis. The objective of this program is to improve the senior's quality of life, improve their health and safety and to provide a short-term intervention while longer term solutions for their needs are being developed by health and social service professionals in the community. The program is offered in the amalgamated City of Ottawa and the United Counties of Leeds, Lanark and Grenville.

St. Christopher House Meals on Wheels Program

Toronto, ON - Due to budget restrictions, most meals on wheels programs must charge a fee for each meal delivered by volunteers. Many seniors living in poverty cannot afford the $4.25 fee on a daily basis. Starting with St. Christopher House, Help the Aged hopes to gradually support more and more meals on wheels programs throughout Canada

Abraham's Lodge and Care Society

Williams Lake, B.C. - Help the Aged has provided support for Abraham's Lodge since 1990. The lodge is a shelter for destitute, homeless, natives with an outreach program providing food, clothing and furniture for the poor living on fifteen reserves around Williams Lake.

Operation Friendship

Edmonton, AB - provides safe, affordable housing, regular nutritious meals, medical and social interaction for homeless inner city seniors.

Le P.A.S. de la rue

Montreal, QC - From their headquarters, they organize activities to break the isolation of the elderly: community suppers, birthday celebrations, group tours and other encounters where they can meet and rediscover the meaning of friendship.

Glace Bay Food Bank

Glace Bay, NS - Funding from HTA provides nutritious meals and community services for seniors in the area.
